Nanobiotechnology and Molecule Engineering Research Group

    Our group is Key Laboratory for Bio-Nanotechnology and Molecular Engineering of Hunan Province. Our group is also an important part of the following research organizations:

  •   State Key Laboratory of Chemo/Biosensing and Chemometrics;

  •   College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Hunan University;

  •   College of Biology, Hunan University ;

  •   Tumor Medicine Research Center of Hunan University.

   Our group mainly devotes to developing novel principles and approaches for bio-information acquiring in vitro and in vivo. Since 1999, we have creatively introduced nano-biotechnology and molecular engineering technology into analytical chemistry. Many novel principles and approaches for bioanalysis at nanoscale and molecular level have been developed based on functionalized nanoparticles, molecular probes, and so on. These principles and approaches have been employed in various aspects of biomedicine research and application, including tumor mechanism research, transfer therapy, and pathogenic microorganisms detection….

Nanobiotechnology

The research focuses on exploiting novel nanoscale materials as nanosensors and nanodevice for biomedical application. We seeks out and fabricates a variety of nanomaterials, such as silica nanoparticles, noble metal cluster, carbon nanomaterials, and quantum dots, and elucidates their nanostructures and characteristics. We work on the biological interaction between nanoparticles and biomolecules, and exploit the biomimetic fabrication of nanostructures. In particular, we give them new functions in the aim of developing revolutionary new materials and devices that can be used in optical sensing, tumor imaging, drug delivery, and medical diagnostics.

 The Nanobiotechnology Group specializes in:

        Synthesis of advanced optical nanoprobes for biosensing and bioimaging.

        Mesoporous materials for separation, controlled release and drug delivery.

Molecular Engineering

Molecular Engineering purposefully manipulates nucleic acids and proteins within the framework of the relation between their structure, function, properties and their applications. The research focuses on the design and synthesis of engineered biological molecules for applications in sensing and biology. With increasing understanding of DNA functionality, we design, and screen aptamer molecules and other functional DNA-based probes for biosensing, and in vivo imaging. Our work is also directed towards the design and creation of new supramolecule and gel-sol nanomaterials with useful optical, electronic or biomedical properties. We believe that a better understanding of the relationship between molecular structure, molecular function and macroscopic properties will give us the ability to build functional materials on the molecular scale.

 The Molecular Engineering Group specializes in:

        SELEX and Chip-based aptamer screening and their biomedicine application.

        DNA molecule probes for biosensing and in vivo imaging.

        Single molecule force spectroscopy & imaging, and nanodevices.
