Brief Introduction
Dr. Jianbo Liu is a professor at the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Hunan University, where he serves as the Chair of the Department of Chemical Biology and Molecular Medicine. He is a core member of the State Key Laboratory of Chemo/Biosensing. He received his Bachelor's and Doctorate degrees from Hunan University in 2004 and 2011 (Supervisor: Prof. Kemin Wang), respectively, and has been on the faculty since graduation. From 2017 to 2019, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Bristol, UK (Supervisor: Stephen Mann FRS).
Dr. Liu's research focuses on chemical biology and analytical chemistry, involving the design of synthetic protocell/artificial cell and prototissue for drug delivery, and disease diagnosis.. Dr. Liu has published more than 60 as the corresponding author in prestigious journals such as Nat. Chem, PNAS, Nat. Commun., JACS, and Angew. Chem.
Dr. Liu has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Ministry of Education Young Changjiang Scholar (2022), China's Top Ten Emerging Scientists (2021), Hunan Province Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talent (2022), and Hunan Province Outstanding Youth Fund (2021).
Research Areas
Chemical Biology: Chemical construction of synthetic cells for therapeutic applications. We focus on the chemical construction of artificial cells, aiming to develop modules for compartmentalization, signal transduction, and metabolic regulation. These artificial cells are designed to replace dysfunctional cells, restore metabolic balance, and offer innovative tools for disease treatment.
Analytical Chemistry: Design of nanoprobe for optical imaging and biosensing. Our research develops novel nano-probes and techniques for optical imaging and chemo-biological analysis. We emphasize in situ, real-time studies, advancing highly sensitive fluorescence analysis and whole-cell sensing technologies for dynamic and efficient environmental monitoring.
Recruitment
The research group is actively recruiting for positions including Associate Professor, Lecturer, Postdoctoral Fellow, and Research Assistant (ongoing). Each year, we accept 2-3 doctoral and master's students. Undergraduate students and joint training students are welcome. Candidates with backgrounds in chemistry, biology, or materials science are especially encouraged to apply.
